2007 World Series Challenge: Game 2
Posted by Andy on October 24, 2007
Since Game 2 comes, amazingly enough, with no off day in between, I thought I'd post this page now. Don't feel rushed--you can make your entry any time between now and the first pitch on Thursday night.
For the full explanation, or to enter your Game 1 predictions before the first pitch tonight, see the Game 1 post.
GAME 2: THURSDAY
If you thought predicting Jeff Francis' start was tough, how about predicting the performance of a guy with fewer than 20 career starts? See the regular post tomorrow for info on youngest pitchers to start in the post-season. By the way, Jiminez is 23 and Schilling is 40. I wonder if there has ever been such a large disparity in the ages of opposing starters in a post-season game.

Yes, you do NOT need to have participated in Game 1 to post an entry for Game 2 or subsequent games (but obviously you won't be eligible for the cumulative title, just the individual game title.)

Orel Hershiser, age 39, twice opposed Livan Hernandez, age 22, in the 1997 World Series. Like that between the ages of Schilling and Jimenez, the disparity between Hershiser's age and Hernandez's was 17 years.

After winning 13-1 the Red Sox are faced with another curse. The curse of the nine run win in Game 1. Every team that has won Game 1 by nine or more runs has gone onto lose the series. The list includes:
1935 Cubs 9-0 over the Tigers
1959 White Sox 11-0 over the Dodgers
1982 Brewers 10-0 over the Cardinals
1996 Braves 12-1 over the Yankees
I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

Nice find, Jack. There's reason to think that the Rockies could be in decent shape. They had a long layoff, and I would expect them to hit a lot better tonight against Schilling. They've got a decent shot at winning tonight, and if so, they probably have a slightly edge for winning the series.

Again I am not going to post a full guess, but my prediction is game scores under 50 for both starters, and both teams scoring at least 5 runs.

Obviously I screwed up my scenario because Jimenez likely won't lose a 7-5 game that Papelbon wins, but what the heck, I'll keep it as it is.
