Bloops: taking the mound more than once
Posted by Andy on November 22, 2009
Raphy just pointed me to this article published at Retrosheet that describes in detail occasions on which the same pitcher took the mound more than once in the same game.
I wrote a blog post here two years ago on the same topic. Needless to say, the Retrosheet article is much more detailed and informative 🙂

Im not sure if the article was supposed to include 2009, but earlier this year (i dont remember the exact date) sean marshall played LF for 1 batter during an outing, and then came back to pitch. anyone remember the date? I could not find a good way to find it on thsi site.

Hey Cubbies: You can actually find that information here on the website. Look up Sean Marshall's hitting game log:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?n1=marshse01&t=b&year=
And scan the far right column of the grid, the Pos column. The game he played in left easily pops out as "LF P".
It was the second game of the July 12 doubleheader:

Facing Gregg Jeffries twice - that is quite odd. Man I love when pitchers move to the field based on strategy - just another reason why NL baseball watches better for me most of the time.
Also, what ever happened to Brooks? He had a 1.16 era+ during his last pitching season - I know he started as an experiment, but the guy didn't seem too bad. Where did he go?
