Bloops: Jason Bay? Why Not Sign Mike Cameron Instead?
Posted by Neil Paine on November 9, 2009
This is an interesting post by Dave Cameron over at FanGraphs... Jason Bay is going to get massively paid this winter, we all know that -- but what if there was another player on the market who was equally valuable, but would cost you far less money? Does that sound like a player you might be interested in?

I've been a big fan of Mike Cameron's offense and defense his entire career, but, this article is not even worthy of comment (but I will anyway). Jason Bay is a far superior player to Cameron today by any measure, and is six years younger, so his skills should be stable for another year or two, while Cameron's will continue to decline rapidly. Furthermore, Bay is not going to sign a one-year contract, he's going to be looking for at least four years and probably more. There is not one sensible reason for a contending team to consider Mike Cameron if they have a shot at Jason Bay.

Um, Cameron's value _hasn't_ been declining rapidly, so how would it "continue" to do so? And the article provides a measure which indicates Bay is not a far superior player, so your first statement is wrong. You haven't provided any data at all. And the article clearly says that Bay will be signing a long-term deal -- but how does that make him more desirable?
