Craig Monroe

The Detroit Tigers designated Craig Monroe for assignment yesterday. Let's see why:
Monroe's most productive seasons were 2003-2006. Over those 4 seasons, he scored 274 runs and batted in 323 runs. Using a PI Batting Season Finder summed over those 4 years, searching for players with at least 50% of their games played in the outfield who have at least 274 R and 323 RBI, let's rank them by OPS:

So, Monroe is....uhh....last. By a pretty big margin.
I have to say, I was pretty shocked to see Torii Hunter down there, below the likes of Burrell and Ibanez. It's amazing how far Hunter makes it on reputation alone.
And yes, Bruce, we all see Miguel Cabrera up there at #6! (Over 2003-2006, he actually played 348 of 566 games in LF or RF.)
Here's one more result, since the above list made me curious and might have made you curious too. This is 2003 to present, at least 50% of games in the OF, minimum 2000 PA, ranked by highest OPS:

The lead that Bonds has is staggeringly large. Manny would have been over 1.000 as well were it not for his awful year this season. Interesting to note that on this list, the home run leaders are Dunn and Ramirez by far.
