I really don't want to complain about Rice making the Hall, having been so impressed watching him over the years, so I like this line of reasoning.
Neutralized
Bernie .291/.375/.467
Rice .290/.343/.489
About even. Depends on whether you want that speedy CF getting on or that slugging RF swinging away. And that, of course, is neutralizing their FULL stats. If you could do it for just road games, they wouldn't look similar. While Rice's numbers are home heavy, Bernie is split almost evenly. He could play great baseball anywhere. And we know the playoff stuff, and the Gold Gloves and leadership of a team that actually dominated.
Rice was great. Hall of Fame great? I'm still not sure, but let's applaud his accomplishments. Bernie? Much better. For the record, yes, I am a Yankees fan. But I believe Morris, Blyleven and Trammell trump either Bernie or Rice.
