In his first SB Nation column, former ESPN analyst Rob Neyer introduces himself to a new audience and talks about the rapidly-shrinking gap between big-time sportswriters and bloggers:

I wish Rob the best. Frankly, I'd never heard of SB Nation until this news, but that probably says more about me than about them.
Here's hoping they come up with another name. Who would ever guess what "SB Nation" means? Apparently, "SB" is short for SportsBlog. Unfortunately, the acronym "SB" already has 2 major meanings just within the sports world (stolen base and Super Bowl). And "Nation" has been pretty well shop-worn for years.

JA, I had the exact same reaction as you...never heard of that site before. Neyer is fantastic, though, and I hope to be able to read his stuff for free. I was a devoted follower on ESPN.com until they put up the paywall.

SBnation is about the 8th largest sports site on the internet now. I know the guys who run it a little bit. Good, solid guys.
