Keeping Score: This Series Is a Matchup of Equals – NYTimes.com
Because a Rangers-Giants matchup doesn't grab the casual fan like the Yankees-Phillies one did last year, a lot of people are predicting the 2010 World Series to be one of the lowest-rated in history.
Don't let the Nielsens fool you, though -- this could get extremely interesting.

As Yogi Berra might put it, the Rangers have never won the World Series, and for the Giants, it's been even longer.

New York sports fan: The Giants are playing this week? I thought it was their bye week. The Rangers are home against Atlanta tonight, and they've already jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
Me: It is still not clear to me who to support.
As a DC native, I still can't root for a team that deserted my home town. Score 1 for San Francisco.
As a Phillies fan, some may feel that I shouldn't root for the team that beat my team in the playoffs. But I feel that the better team won the NLCS this year. Score 1 for both teams.
As a Washington Redskins fan, I can't root for a team called the Giants. But I also can't root for a team from Dallas. Subtract 1 from both teams.
As a Washington Capitals fan, I can't root for a team called the Rangers. Score 1 for the San Francisco.
As a fan of a Washington area kids TV show in the late 1950s and early 1960s hosted by a singing cowboy named Pick Temple and sponosred by the local Giant Food Store, I was proud to be a Pick Temple Giant Ranger. So score 1 for both teams again. And while I'm not much of a college sports fan, score 1 for the Owls in Philadelphia Big Five basketball action.
I do not like teams that don't have their players' names on their uniforms for some or all of their games. Score 1 for Texas. And subtract that 1 I just gave to the Temple Owls in the last item.
It looks like I'll be pulling for the San Francisco Giants, despite seeing only a 55 and not a Lincecum 55 on the starting pitcher's back tonight.

Is it just me or does anybody else NOT want to watch it when the Phillies and Yankees are in it?

Anon, for me it's just the Yankees that make me want to switch to a reruns channel.

Personally I find it refreshing to see anyone but the Yankees in the World Series. I am tired of the typical Yankee fan arrogance.
