10 starts and 10 saves in a season
Posted by Andy on October 30, 2008
A reader on my 88 Topps Cards blog noted that Bob Stanley had 17 starts and 14 saves in 1980 and wondered how many other players have had similar seasons. Here are the most reason seasons with at least 10 starts and 10 saves:

These are, for the most part, guys converted mid-season from starter to closer or vice versa.

Great stuff Andy. Did you notice these guys had a combined 'winning' % of .410 with the best of the
worst being Anthony Young @ 2-14 for a robust .125!

On a related note, I have identified eighteen pitchers who led their team in both wins and saves in the same season. That's more than I would have expected before I did the research (and there may be more still ... I just wanted to get a sense of how common it is.)
But here's the trivia question for you all -- can you name a pitcher who led his team in both wins and saves in the same season ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS? I have only identified one, but I'll attempt to verify other answers (please provide the years that he did it).

wboenig -Are you only counting since 1969 when saves become official?
Before that it might have been quite common.
For example, Lefty Grove led his team in 1926, 1927, 1928, 1930, 1932, and 1933.

a few interesting tidbits: Johnny Antonelli performed the feat with the least games pitched (41). Bob Shaw did it with 3 shutouts!

kingturtle-
if you want to go further back - Al Benton did in 40 games in 1949.

Yes, the answer I have in mind happened since 1969.
Actually, since the question is kind of lame and I won't be around for a few days to provide any more info, I'll offer up my answer now.
Bill Campbell had 17 wins and 20 saves for the 1976 Twins; he then took his act to Boston where he had 13 wins and 31 saves in 1977. All of those numbers were tops on his team(s).
