Geremi Gonzalez

Former big-league pitcher Geremi Gonzalez died a few months ago when he was struck by lightning. Unusual, but true. Earlier in his career, his teams spelled his first name "Jeremi."
Anyway, Gonzalez didn't have a long or particularly noteworthy career. In 2003, he had one of fewer than a dozen seasons by a Rays pitcher with at least 150 IP and an ERA+ of 110 or better. He still went just 6-11, though.
Since 1958, Gonzalez had one of the lowest W-L% for a starting pitcher meeting those criteria. I'm sure it's because the Rays didn't score any runs.

Rest in peace, Mr. Gonzalez.

Of course, that is easily checked on his Game Logs page. His avg run support in 2003 was 3.55 RPG, and he received 3 or fewer runs in 15 of 25 starts.

Wow, hadn't thought of John Dopson in years. Looking at his numbers, I don't really see why he was out of baseball at 30 except for a bad year after a number of years pitching for awful teams. His Red Sox stint came during a real period in the wilderness, "The Scott Fletcher Era".
