Rivera has given up only four grand slams in his career including today's. The last one was in 2002 against Bill Selby. Two two previous ones were both in 1995 against Geronimo Berroa and Bobby Bonilla. Only the Selby hit was a blown save for Rivera.

Speaking of today's performances, Cliff Lee has given up 5 hits, none of them for singles. What's the most hits in a game given up, all for extra bases?

Took the liberty of seeing Mariano Rivera's grand slam history. He's allowed 4. Two of them, however, came in his rookie season. The only two since then were in 2002 and today. The only player besides Kubel to hit a grand slam off of Rivera since he became a closer--Bill Selby of the Cleveland Indians in 2002. It was one of the "grand" total of 11 career home runs for Selby.

Going back to 1952
Gaylord Perry gave up 6 hits (4 doubles and 2 HRs) on 4/20/73 in a 3-2 win for Cleveland over Boston
May 16th, 2010 at 5:35 pm
Ricky Nolasco gave up 9 hits (4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs) on 4/17/08.

What are the other save streaks? Consecutive saves? Consecutive home saves? Can the PI search for those?
May 16th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
I'd have to say Eric Gagne has to be up there for a save streak at home.
May 16th, 2010 at 7:04 pm
Wow. I actually count 51 for Gagne between 8-26-02 and 7-05-04. That's one short of Mariano's 52.
I don't have a script that mines dailies, though, so I'll defer to those who have that capability.

David - Mariano only had 51. Andy listed all his appearances back to his last blown save. #52 on the list is a BW: blown save & win. I'll post a list of leaders in the next thread.

I hadn't checked the scores from earlier today and figured, knowing the Yankees, that this would be a blown save in which only a tying run scored in the top of the ninth, and then the Yankees would have won it in the bottom of the ninth or in extras. But I just checked and saw that the Yankees did indeed lose it in the ninth.

I remember the Selby one. Someone dropped a foul ball before the play and it wasn't called an error. That pitch would never have happened, and even so should have been considered unearned.

According to the PI, this is also the fourth time Rivera has walked in a run in his career. The greatest ever.
