Posted by Andy on May 10, 2010

Here are the answers:

1) Total number of complete games pitched by all teams excluding rain-shortened games: 6, including a perfect game:

I had no idea we'd have such memorable complete games this past week.

2) Total number of games in which both teams score at least 10 runs (such a game counts as 1, not 2 because 2 teams are involved.): just 1

3) Total number of games in which each team steals at least one base: 11

4) Total homers combined for Billy Butler and Jose Guillen, both KCR: 2 (1 for each)

5) Total saves combined for Matt Capps, WSN and David Aardsma, SEA 3 (3 for Capps and none for Aardsma, who had a rough week.)

Here are the top 6 finishers:

1. Elkboy - 2
2T. Brian O - 4 (2)
2T. Russell - 4
3. Adamrr - 5
4T. Dances w vowels - 6
4T. KennO - 6 (2)

Brian O and KennO join the multiple-top-five-finishes club.

Elkboy blew away the competition by guessing 3 questions exactly correctly--complete games, both teams score 10+ runs, HRs by Butler and Guillen. He missed the other 2 questions by just 1 point each.

Three other entrants got 3 questions exactly right--two of them were Dances w vowels and Steve B, who finished with a great score of 8 which was good for only a 3-way tie for 9th place. The other was two-time winner Josh W, who unfortunately way way overguessed on question #3 (both teams with at least one stolen base) and finished near the bottom of the pack.

Just about everybody overguessed on that question #3. The average guess was 17 but the answer was 11.

Johnny Twisto threw in a last-second entry was WAY WAY WAY overguessed #3 at 40. It's a shame because his other 4 answers yielded only 3 points.

  1. Johnny Twisto Says:

    Oops.

  2. Josh W Says:

Can I ask you to add all the stat challenges to that category? It's getting tougher to find the old entries and keep up with them. Thanks for running these!

  3. Josh W Says:

    Yup, me too: oops.

  4. Djibouti Says:

    Only 8 of 43 people under-guessed #3, with 4 people guessing 9

    Jamos - 7
    Adamrr - 10
    Dunnowhat2type - 7
    BLWinborn32 - 9
    Brian O - 9
    KennO - 9
    CJ - 8
    Djibouti - 9

And only RichardKC got it exactly right with 11
