All 9 starters hit and score
Posted by Andy on May 4, 2010
Yesterday's Red Sox game was the second this year in which all 9 starters in the lineup got at least 1 hit and scored at least 1 run:
Rk | Tm | Opp | Date ▾ | #Matching |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | BOS | LAA | 2010-05-03 | 9 |
3 | SDP | ATL | 2010-04-12 | 9 |
Somehow, the Padres' accomplishment is a little more impressive since it included a 2-run single by starting pitcher Kevin Correia, who later scored on a double.
In case you're curious, this feat was accomplished 9 times in 2009, 10 times in 2008, 12 times in 2007, 19 times in 2006, and 15 times in 2005.

Neither of these games qualifies, but in how many of the games mentioned from 2005-present (if any) did each of that team's starters also have 1 or more RBI?

There are 40 games in the archives that have all 9 starters getting at least 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI:

I was at the ballgame ... the Angels were throwing batting practice. It felt like the Sox had about a million extra-base hits. Of course, ol' Scott Schoenweis threw a little BP for LA in the 9th, too. Crazy game.

I will be at Red Sox - Yanks this Friday...Phil Hughes vs Josh Beckett. Can't wait.
I've had the fun of being at some big games between these two teams...Johnny Damon's first game back as a Yankee (same game where Doug Mirabelli was brought in by police escort) and also Roger Clemens' 299th career victory.

It blows me away that the '68 Yankees had a game where all nine starters got at least one hit, one run, and one RBI. That team hit .214 for the entire season. I'm pretty sure that's the third-lowest single-season team average since 1901, higher than only the 1910 White Sox and the 1908 Superbas (Dodgers).
Those Yankees really stuck it to the Senators in that doubleheader: 16-2 and 10-0. Ouch.

Figures that the only team to have this done to them twice in one season was the 1930 Phillies.

[...] All nine starters in last night’s lineup had (at least) one hit and one run scored. Pinch-runner Jonathan Van Every also scored a run, but did not get a hit in his one at-bat. [...]
