Posted by Steve Lombardi on February 25, 2010

A fun little list via Baseball-Reference.com's Play Index Batting Game Finder - players who have reached base via an error in two or more All-Star Games -

Related, that first All-Star Game of 1961, at Candlestick, where Kaline, Berra and Colavito all reached via an error, was a mess. Five players reached base via an error in that contest - where seven errors, in total, were made on the day. More on these types of games, via Play Index's Team Batting Game Finder:

  1. Wez Says:

2008 is of course due to probably the most horrendous All Star play ever by Dan Uggla where 3 of those 4 errors were his and he topped it off by going 0-4 with 3 Ks and grounded into a double play in the top of the tenth with the score tied and runners on first and third.

  2. Gerry Says:

The 1961 game at Candlestick was also the one where a gust of wind caused pitcher Stu Miller to balk.

  3. Zachary Says:

Has any player ever suffered more from a non-postseason single-game performance? Every so often you get a really strong core of young players at one position (remember the A-Rod/Jeter/Nomar days?), and it seemed that there was just such a group at second in the 2006-2008 timeframe. I remember Uggla being right in that mix, along with Utley, Kinsler, and Pedroia (the other second basemen in that All-Star Game). Since that awful performance ... not so much.

  4. Johnny Twisto Says:

You seem to have omitted Robinson Cano.

  5. Tomepp Says:

With good reason - Cano wasn't on the 2008 All-Star squad. Zachary was referring to Wes' comment about the 2008 ASG.

  6. Johnny Twisto Says:

It's like you expect me to read all the words or something.

  7. Djibouti Says:

I always hated that holy trinity grouping of ARod/Jeter/Nomar because it left out Vizquel.

  8. Raphy Says:

Arod/Jeter/Nomar were grouped together because at the time they were young, good hitting shortstops.
Visquel was a good shortstop, but he wasn't young anymore and he certainly couldn't hit like the other three. Here are the stats for players from 1996-2003 with at least 3000 PA and 50% of their games at short.

  9. Efresh Says:

Raphy you are right, Arod, Jeter and Nomar were on a streak at a that young age. But guys lets not forget about Barry Larkin. I personally liked this guy's stats for some reason. He has something to his game.
