Search tip

Posted by Andy on August 21, 2011

Just a quick tip--if you'd like to search the blog archives for posts mentioning your favorite player, team, or game, there's an easy way to do it:

  • Use Google's advanced search option
  • Enter baseball-reference.com/blog in the box toward the bottom labeled "Search within a site or domain"
  • Then enter your search term at the top and press the search button
Some examples:
Rob Deer
8/12/1966
1993 Phillies
Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron

A quicker way to do this is to type "site:baseball-reference.com/blog " in the search box (i.e., "site:baseball-reference.com/blog Rob Deer" will yield the same results as the first example).

Play Index search question: Am I crazy or didn't the Player Batting Game Finder have a radio button for Team W, Team L, or Either, just as Player Pitching Game Finder does? I don't see that radio button in the Player Batting Game Finder now -- am I wrong that it was previously there?

i have a question. when you read that a player leads MLB in batting average since May 15, is there a place you can find those stats or search for them? they are splits (sort of), but not. maybe it is special elias info? thanks!

Redsock: You can do searches by date at the Day by Day Database at David Pinto's venerable baseballmusings.com. It's not as well-designed or a fraction as deep as b-ref, but it gets the job done for date-based searches.
