.
It's an interesting list of names.

Any list where Dave Kingman ranks higher than Hank Aaron and Dante Bichette ranks higher than Willie Mays is evil and must be destroyed...

The second list is really fascinating. If you one accepts the fact that steroids nothwithstanding, both McGwire and Bonds are HOF. We
have 10 of 15 in the HOF. Teixiera meanwhile could make it too
someday. Aramis Ramirez indeed!

A simple list but interesting, not one I remember seeing before.
Do we have any statisticians out there who could project, I guess based on a normal distribution of their career RBI, how many 5-RBI games a particular player would be *expected* to have. Then we could see who exceeded that.
Cecil Fielder looks like an outlier, but he did run up a lot of ribbies in his brief prime. 1990-92, he had 11 such games, Greg Vaughn(!) had 7, no one else had more than 5.
Most in a single season is Juan Gonzalez with 8 in '98. Gehrig '30, Foxx '33, ManRam '98 each had 7.

Just scrolling through Gehrig's games, I see two were back to back:
June 14, 1930: 2-for-4, 5 RBI
June 15, 1930: 3-for-5, 7 RBI

Cecil Fielder really sticks out to me on this list. He has 1008 career RBI - only Kingman (1210) and Juan Gone (1404) have less than 1500 and the average of the first 19 players listed (excluding Fielder) is 1762. And his RBI/AB rate is lower than the average of those players as well. All or nothing with the big man, I guess.
He had 4 such games in a little over a month in 1990 (April 28 - June 6). During those 36 games he hit .366/.426/.855. From there to the end of the season he hit .253/.358/.522.

There was a similar list in today's sporcle sports quiz. "Most 4-hit games". It was easy to fill out half of the quiz but there were some surprises further down the list.
The second list above which is sorted by OPS is a bit random in my opinion. There's a wider variation in the under-20-matches guys than there is in the over-20 matches guys.

I like Chipper's 85 in 17 games. Everybody else on the list made it to 6 at least once.

Sexson is the name that really stands out to me. Nice to see good ol High Pockets Kelly again.

@6...I tried that quiz...and despite my thinking I know baseball history very well, I was stumped.

I am great. It's just that I often don't know to what degree.

Help me out here. Players on the second list got their RBI with home runs while Lou Gehrig hit more doubles than home runs? Trying to attach some meaning to the lists.
Off topic, but, sadly, has the clock struck twelve for the Cinderella Pirates?

@12
Sorry .... meant more doubles than people on the second list. My typing mistake.

@4.
Gehrig's consecutive 5 RBI games are one of only 29 such back-to-back games since 1919. Nobody has two such streaks, and nobody has done it 3 games in a row.
Other HOFers to do this are: Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Joe Cronin, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams and Andre Dawson. Probable future HOFers who've done this include A-Rod and Griffey.
Raul Ibanez (2008) is the last player to accomplish this feat.

@14 ARod is not a future HoFer. He is an admitted steroid user and is headed to baseball purgatory.

Yeah, me either. No list!

Guys, for some reason both of Steve's lists have disappeared from the blog. We were not imagining them.

if A-rod and Bonds are not in the hall of fame within 10 years of their retirements I will be shocked. I imagine Bonds will get a fair number of "protest" votes their first year. Perhaps enough to keep them under 75%. But I expect they will each be in by the second ballot.

firepower and stars, oh my.

@21
Cheese, another one of Gehrig's 5+ RBI-games, but when you start getting 8+ RBI games you're in more select company.
August 1st, 2011 at 6:09 pm
@21, @22
Looking at that box score I was surprised to see that Gehrig batted 5th while Lazzerl batted 4th. It turns out for that season the two of them alternated in those two batting positions. I always thought Gehrig had a lock on 4th.

"for some reason both of Steve's lists have disappeared from the blog. We were not imagining them."
Not sure why it was edited to remove the table - but, I restored what was there.

No one on the list had fewer HRs than games with most averaging at least1.5 HRs per game. Crazy.

Most career games with 5+ RBI but no home runs: 6, Pinky Higgins; 5, Enos Slaughter; 4, by eight players — Jim Rice, Joe Judge, Charlie Gehringer, Lou Gehrig, Joe Cronin, Orlando Cepeda, and Johnny Berardino.
Johnny Berardino??!!
August 2nd, 2011 at 3:18 pm
Um, make that "by seven players".

Jeff Kent and A-Rod are the only non-OF non-1B in the top 30. I'm really surprised to see Kent, a second baseman, in with this kind of company and now I am convinced he'll be in the HOF.
