Yo, Adrian!
Posted by Andy on June 17, 2011
Here's a quick rundown of players with the given first name of Adrian (sometimes properly spelled Adrián):
There are two active players in the majors with that first name--Adrian Beltre and Adrian Gonzalez. Both pretty good ball players. (Well, one pretty good and one who looks like the AL MVP.)
Some of you probably remember Adrian Hernandez, El Duquecito, who was supposed to be the next Orlando Hernandez.
But there are a couple more you might not know...
- Adrian Joss, better known as Addie Joss
- Adrian Constantine Anson, better known as Cap Anson
I bet some of you remember another Adrian---Adrian Devine. But his real first name is Paul!
See the full list of Adrians here.

We Red Sox fans are pleased with our Adrian upgrade.

The first obscure Adrian that always comes to mind for me is Adrian Brown, one of three Browns the Pirates had in their outfield in late 1999 (Emil and Brant being the other two). Amazingly, manager Gene Lamont never capitalized on the idea of having all three of them play the outfield at the same time.....

@2 ES
Never is much love for the Browns in Pittsburgh eh?
Sorry.

Adrián González looks like José Bautista?
June 17th, 2011 at 1:06 pm
No. Bautista currently leads the AL with 4.6 WAR while Gonzalez has 4.0. But that's after Gonzalez had 1 HR and 15 RBI in April. Since then, in a month and a half, he has 13 more HR and 46 more RBI. Bautista, mean while, is ice cold in June so far, with just 1 HR, 6 RBI, and a .283 SLG. You tell me which guy is trending which way. I'm calling it now...Gonzalez will be AL MVP.

Andy, let me say that I am disappointed in this topic. Several weeks ago Randy "Macho Man Savage" died and you used this site to point out that "Macho Man" played minor league baseball. Thank heavens Neil L. commented that he was disappointed you'd stoop so low as to mention that tidbit. Neil felt you somehow disgraced this site, and insinuated that many baseball fans are also wrestling fans. I think we owe a big thanks to Neil for helping make North America a better place by reminding us that professional wresting very rarely will have events at baseball fields. Mostly they occur at basketball and hockey arenas like The Target Center.

The kiss of death.

Hey, I predicted the demise of Phil Hughes, Bartolo Colon, and Josh Beckett. Two out of three ain't bad 🙂

What about William Joseph "Adrienne" Barbeau?

@Andy I meant only to suggest that were the season to end today, one could not but vote for Bautista, notwithstanding his June swoon. I concur, I suspect, in your AL MVP prediction, but so too do I believe that Bautista will finish the year as the AL WAR leader (surely fWAR, and likelier than not rWAR* too); unless his narrative can be recast to its early-season form, though, 'twill not be enough.

Excuse the stray asterisk, which I've only just observed; it may be charged to my cat, who enjoyed a walk across my keyboard whilst I wrote.
