Name that Hitter

[Note: The answer has been guessed, and is confirmed in comment #27.]
I've played in the majors for multiple years with multiple teams.
I have good batting numbers. Pro-rated to 650 PAs (which is less than my total), I've averaged 93 RBI, 91 Runs, 29 HRs, 7 triples, 39 doubles, 78 walks, and over 6 WAR (including a strong defensive WAR rating).
To put that 6 WAR rating into perspective, the 2010 NL MVP had 5.9 WAR; just 9 MLB position players had 6+ WAR last year.
I currently play for my home-town team, but while growing up, I just couldn't root for them.
I have played in the postseason.

Matt Joyce perhaps?
June 4th, 2011 at 8:02 pm
Not enough walks for Joyce.

Brian Schneider?
June 4th, 2011 at 8:13 pm
Micah Owings?
June 4th, 2011 at 8:13 pm
Hmmm yeah didn't actually calculate the numbers. He's played for mulitiple teams, he was born in Tampa, he couldn't root for his team since they didn't exist while he was growing up and he's played in the postseason.
June 4th, 2011 at 8:13 pm
Is this player a pitcher maybe? I dont see how a hitter with less than 650 PA that played with more than 1 team and in the playoffs with a 6+ WAR exists.
June 4th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
David Ross? Georgia boy, backup catcher, so he would never get 650 PA, but really solid numbers
June 4th, 2011 at 8:19 pm
Gaby Sanchez?
June 4th, 2011 at 8:22 pm
If it's a pitcher he'd have to pitched at least 9-10 years in the majors.
June 4th, 2011 at 8:24 pm
Some of the numbers work for Michael Bourn, but he's nowhere close on RBI.
June 4th, 2011 at 8:24 pm
oops, misread the 650 PAs. stupid guess
June 4th, 2011 at 8:27 pm
Are you Carlos Gonzalez?
June 4th, 2011 at 8:32 pm
You are definitely Matt Joyce
June 4th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Who am I?
Yesterday I hit a home runs, had 2 walks and was hit by a pitch.
nope. nope. nope. nope.
OK... I'm Juan Pierre!
June 4th, 2011 at 8:48 pm

June 4th, 2011 at 8:56 pm

June 4th, 2011 at 8:57 pm

June 4th, 2011 at 8:58 pm

June 4th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
Never mind Werth is from Illinois
June 4th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
@1
Zack, you got it right away! Nice confirmation, Ryan.
June 4th, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Oops.... confirmation. Darn.
June 4th, 2011 at 9:06 pm
Doesn't Matt Joyce have more than 650 PA?
June 4th, 2011 at 9:07 pm
oops nvm
June 4th, 2011 at 9:30 pm
Everybody seems to have read the PA part of the initial description wrong, including me the first time I read it. He says his actual numbers are *MORE* than 650 PA's. Read it again: "Pro-rated to 650 PAs (which is less than my total)."
June 4th, 2011 at 9:35 pm
Tulo...

Well, that was a bad time to lose my internet connection for an hour!
Yes, Zack @1 hit the first pitch out of the park -- and I'm the hotshot who hung the slider. Well done, Zack.
(Now let's hope our pitcher develops a decent breaking ball before he's shipped back to Toledo....)
June 4th, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Quirky fact about Matt Joyce: His first MLB game of last year, after being recalled from the minors, was on June 25, against Arizona. The opposing pitcher was Edwin Jackson, for whom Joyce had been traded one-up; and of course, that was the night Jackson tossed his 8-walk, 149-pitch no-hitter against his former team.

@27
JA, thanks for starting us with a hanging slider.
This is a very popular type of thread.
Now for your mid-nineties tailing fastball "Who am I?"........ 🙂

Almost sounds like Abreu - multiple years, check. - multiple teams, check. Post season, check. Good eye walks) check.
But good defense - nope. 2010 −2.1 dWar.
Born in Venezuela - nope.
June 4th, 2011 at 10:51 pm
@30, Duke -- Good eye. Abreu and Joyce have the same career OPS, .885, and a general similarity in many offensive areas. But Joyce has an edge in OPS+, 140 to 131, because his numbers have come in a lower-scoring era.

Dude, the guy said it's Matt Joyce! You can stop guessing now!
PS How do you create an article?

Brian Schneider? Come on!

Oh, no, I must confess to not even having heard of Matt Joyce! Had to go do some research!
I would have been especially embarrassed if it turned out he played against the Phillies in the 2008 World Series or some other series. But it turns out that his postseason trip was with the Rays to the 2010 NLDS.
June 5th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
@37
Double, you still rock in my books despite not having heard of Matt Joyce.
He has been back-and-forth with Jose Bautista all year for the AL batting average leader.
What's wrong with his post-season appearance being in the NLDS with the Rays? 🙂
June 5th, 2011 at 5:58 pm
@37 @38
Matt Joyce, ALDS, not NLDS.?
June 6th, 2011 at 1:24 pm
he has 87 career AB's against LHP with a .613 OPS. So I'm holding off projecting his number to a full-time player. But obviously some kind of switch may have went on this year.
"I've played in the majors for multiple years with multiple teams"
That threw me. I assumed the player had to have at least 2 seasons with at least 2 teams. He only appeared in 1 season with the Tigers so I thought he didn't qualify.
June 6th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
@40, Doug B -- Good point about the opening clue. I should have written, "I've played in the majors for multiple years, and with multiple teams."
