Concerning reduced vision, do you consider glasses/contacts to be an "assistive technology"? In theory I see perfectly fine when wearing them, so I don't think I'm supposed to answer in the affirmative for that question, but I just want to be sure what your intent is.

To #1:
I am vision impaired -- uncorrectably -- so I did answer in the affirmative, with that proviso. But if you are the same Ryne Duren i am thinking of, and I recall correctly, You're days with the Reds at least were made more successful because batters were afraid to dig in against you -- because you were so nearsighted, not because you were so mean. Right?

You know what's great? A website so in-touch with its users that it actually cares what they think of it! What a novel concept, huh? Thanks so much, Sean. We all really appreciate how much hard work you put into this site.

I follow Dr. Doom, thanks a million, (daily hits), Sean.

I'm not really grouping glasses in there. I'm talking more people who can not see as well even with glasses and contacts.

The site is great except for the photos and the "scoreresearch" thing that slows up everything

I have cataracts in both eyes, completely blurred vision in one and impossible to read, kinda blurry and hard to read with the other. Underlines on links make them stand out and easier to see. The overall appearance of the site looks cleaner and "better," from an aesthetic point of view, but "worse" for me when I'm looking for links. I can work around it, though, but I sure get funny looks from people here at the library with my face only two inches from the screen, and the librarian makes me spray the screen with "hand sanitizer" if I cough or sneeze. Like somebody else is going to touch the screen???? Whatever.

Response is a LOT MORE slower now.
Ryne Duren is on my Sparky Anderson Birthday team, which I did for fun for someone whose birthday is the same day as Sparky's a few years ago. I just dusted it off after Sparky's recent passing and discovered that I didn't have a third outfielder or a shortstop back then, in April 2007. With a total of FIVE major leaguers so far who were born on Sparky's birthday in 1983, I was able to fill the outfielder vacancy with one of them, who had an interesting debut game against the Phillies this year (and the first of those five to make the majors was named the first baseman right after making the majors back in 1983).
Kazuhiro Sasaki, who shows up in another new post today, is also on the team.
Manager - Sparky Anderson
2nd base - Kelly Johnson, one of two members of the Braves' starting infield in part of 2008 and 2009 on this team
1st base - Casey Kotchman, the other of two members of the Braves' starting infield in part of 2008 and 2009 on this team
LHP - Steve Barber, from Takoma Park, MD, which is near where I'm from
RHP - Ryne Duren, wore thick glasses that scared batters
3rd base - Johnny Lucadello, St. Louis Browns in 1930s and 1940s, big gap in years played no doubt due to World War II
OF - Daniel Nava - Hit a grand slam home run in his first major league at-bat, for the Red Sox, in an interleague game against the Phillies on June 12, 2010
OF - Joe Lefebvre, played for Phillies in 1980s and other teams before that
OF - Mike Rogodzinski, Phillies reserve in the 1970s
C - Roy Spencer, played for Washington Senators and other teams in 1920s and 1930s. In an era when there wasn't much movement between the NL and the AL, he played for Pittsburgh, Cleveland, the New York Giants, and the Brooklyn Dodgers in addition to the Senators.
Closer - Kazuhiro Sasaki, Japanese "import" AL Rookie of the Year in 2000
I'm still trying to come up with a shortstop.
NBA (and ABA) great Julius "Dr. J." Erving gets to throw out the first ball.

Sean,
I am assuming that my own impairment -- legally blind and uncorrectable -- falls into this category; and I personally find the underlining to be of significant assistance.

By the way -- I am assisted on the old 'puter by two very useful inventions; a voice-activated input, and a VERY patient wife.

Is a mobile site/iPhone app still in the works? I would definitely pay money for an app
November 9th, 2010 at 6:25 am
Would definitely be interested in a mobile site/app, too ...
November 9th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Yes mobile is definitely on my radar.

Am I the first person to post that isn't blind or visually impaired? Anyway, I consider all the changes very minor; I didn't notice them until seeing this survey.
November 10th, 2010 at 7:38 pm
I would have taken the survey, but I couldn't read the questions 😉

I've been wearing, 24/7, prescription glasses for over 40 years.
I answered "no" to question #1.
Wearing glasses is all I know.
Therefore, I don't consider my vision impaired.
