Not a big fan of the tweeting thing, so I'll throw my random comment here:
Why were the fans booing pretty much every player that wasn't in an Angels fan? Ok, I get booing the Giants players...kind of. But why are you booing the Yankees players? You're not Boston, you're not even Baltimore, Toronto or Tampa Bay. Unless you've got a real, involved, deep rivalry with a team, show a little respect, and either clap for the All Stars or sit on your hands.

What do the plus signs after the player names on the All-Star summary page mean? This page: http://www.baseball-reference.com/allstar/

Couldn't agree more. I get it-- everyone hates the Yankees and Red Sox. I do, too. But their ON YOUR TEAM-- at least for today. Deal with it. And there was pretty much no love whatsoever for the National Leaguers, except Pujols, who got a huge ovation. And if there was one player who deserved the boos of the Angels player, you'd think it would have been for the guy who left them: Vlad Guerrero. But then he got a bigger ovation than ANYONE else. To any Angels fans out there: please explain. The rest of us don't understand.

  5. Jim Says:

i guess everyone forgets that the angels lost to the yankees in the alcs last year

  6. Thomas Says:

The Angels have lost to a lot of teams in the last year....

  7. Jim Says:

    good point thomas... i think...

  8. Johnny Twisto Says:

I don't think the Angels made much effort to keep Guerrero. It's not like he jilted them.

  9. Malcolm Says:

Well I for one saw a TON of Yankees caps and Red Sox caps in the seats...

As for the game itself, Phil Hughes' performance brought me back to my youth in the 70's watching the ASG and having one of my Yankee pitchers practically lose the game every year:

1975 - Catfish - Loss (also gave up 2 runs in 1976 ASG)
1977 - Lyle - ND (gave up 2 late runs. AL lost by 2)
    1978 - Gossage - Loss (gave up 4 runs in 8th inning)
1979 - Guidry - ND (walked in the go-ahead/winning run in 8th inning)
1980 - John - Loss (gave up 3 runs after AL had the lead)
1981 - Ron Davis (Ike's father) - ND (actually got a Hold. But gave up a long solo HR late. AL lost by 1)
1982 - Gossage & Guidry - DNP (coaches decision even though the AL used many pitchers. AL lost anyway)
1983 - Guidry - DNP (Kuenn probably thought it was a good idea to not use any Yanks. It worked as AL finally broke the NL winnning streak.
