Site Features: Draft Tools, Part II
Posted by Neil Paine on June 8, 2010
Picking up where yesterday's post left off, here are some more features of Baseball-Reference's draft search tool:
- Search by Type of School Drafted From - For instance: JuCo 1st-rounders in 2008 ... 1st Overall Picks from 4-year colleges ... High Schoolers drafted by the A's in the 1st round ... etc.
- Search by Position and Draft Round - 3rd Basemen drafted in the 2nd round ... 7th-round Pitchers ... Catchers taken in the 1st round of the January-phase draft ... etc.
- Expansion Drafts - 1997 ... 1976 ... 1961 ... etc.

Just as I'd feared, James Paxton is being listed at the MLB site (in a list of top prospects not yet drafted) as being from "None" rather than "University of Kentucky". Come on, he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did without time spent as a Wildcat.
And Drew Pomeranz, Cleveland's first rounder, is listed by an incorrect name for his school. It should be "University of Mississippi". As a northerner, I have to confess having no idea what "Ole Miss" was when one of the football-playing Manning brothers was drafted from that school.
