Brooks Conrad’s walk-off slam
Posted by Andy on May 20, 2010
Brooks Conrad just hit a walk-off grand slam for the Braves to finish off a 7-run bottom-of-the-ninth for the Braves. They beat the Reds 10-9 and overcame a terrible start by Tommy Hanson.
I just wrote this morning about the Braves' walk-off wins so far this year. Wow.
Also, for those of you who have been reading this blog for a long time, remember my name chain posts from a few years ago? How great is Brooks Conrad for that? I'm thinking Tommy John Henry Brooks Conrad Cardinal for starters. Surprising that there haven't been more big-leaguers with the first name Conrad.

By the way, you don't seem to have any of the long chains in your Name Chain posts. Like

These are from mid-90s posts on rec.sport.baseball. It might be possible to do a little better now.
Is there an updated list of the ultimate grand slams now that Brooks Conrad has joined the club?

I can just hear those Braves fans singing along with their tomahawk-chopping a certain song from "Bye Bye Birdie". "Oh yes we do!"
As for someone with the first name of Brooks, I want follow it with the Yankees' current 2nd baseman, Cano.
When I was a child, I dreamed up pitching match-ups in which one pitcher had a first name that was the last name of the other. The ones I remember were Arnold Earley (which I thought was spelled "Early" at first) vs. Early Wynn and Jack Sanford vs. Sanford "Sandy" Koufax. Of course, there have been others in the intervening years.

I'm still waiting for the Padres to pitch Clayton Richard against the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. It hasn't happened yet this season, but I'll keep my watchmen on the walls.

How many times has a team scored eight runs in an inning and still lost the game?
