Stat Challenge: Week 7 (spring training)
Posted by Andy on May 14, 2010
Sorry I am late posting this one. I had a very busy week at my real job! I have some exciting news about the Stat Challenge. We are going to add a prize for the seasonal winner starting next week. Results from the first 7 weeks will not count since some people would have participated more if they had known there was a prize. Use this week as your tune-up and check back next week for the official contest with a prize!
Week 7 considers games from Monday May 17 through Sunday May 23. You must post your entry for Week 7 in the comments to this post before the first pitch of the week, scheduled for 7:05 PM ET on Monday. (No day games on this particular Monday, meaning you have extra time to enter.)
Questions:
1. Total games in which one pitching staff allows 2 or fewer hits
2. Total first-inning runs scored by the Minnesota Twins
3. Total naps, umm I mean plate appearances, for Ken Griffey Jr, SEA
4. Total RBI for Paul Konerko and Andruw Jones, both CWS
5. Total wins for pitchers with a seasonal age of 24 or younger (that means any player who will still be 24 or younger by June 30th of this year)

Andy-
My sincerest apologies on the profanity. I throw that term around generally and did not mean to offend. I hope you take into consideration the larger point of my comment, but nonetheless, I'll be more deliberate and careful with my language. I'll resubmit my entry, which will be most assuredly different, and hopefully see if I'm closer or further.
To anyone reading, my comment had to do with question #1. It seemed to me that the answer range was too limited to offer any real consequence to the results. Unfortunately, I used an off-handed remark to describe how this game works and Andy rightfully censored. Again, my apologies to the writers here and the readers who I may have offended.

BSK, I don't agree with you. The weekly winner usually wins by 1 point, so even a low-scoring question is important. Furthermore, thus question weeds out some competitors who might guess a high number.

It's also worth mentioning that there have been 3 such games in the last week, so your basic premise that there could only be 1 or 2 is wrong.

Andy-
Fair enough, I stand corrected. Sorry for any problems I might have caused.
