I loved watching the manager argue the "safe" call with the plate ump just so his catcher could start picking up ego shreds.

Sorry to be that guy, but ...

    He's out.

  4. Johnny Twisto Says:

Why, because he tagged the runner's forcefield?

It's like the end of Major League 2, only for real.

    God, what a terrible movie.

  6. Kahuna Tuna Says:

Good frame capture, Ryan, but I was watching the ump's hands. His call is what determines the result of the play.

In watching the video again, I noticed that the third-base ump quickly came down and walked the catcher away from home plate. There's no way to know whether he did that in order to let the manager take over the arguing, to console the catcher with "Yeah, I thought you tagged him, but Blue called him safe and we're all just going to have to live with it," or a little bit of both.

  7. Andy Says:

Not only was he not tagged, but that screen capture shows the catcher's ELBOW up towards the runner, not his glove. If you watch the catcher's glove the entire time you can see that it never goes above his waist.

  8. BSK Says:

Andy is right. Watching it again, the catcher has his glove hand and bare hand together, rotates his torso to thrust his elbow up in the air, but never gets his glove raised.
