Will Venable’s big day
Posted by Andy on April 13, 2010
I'm writing this on Monday evening while the Braves-Padres game is still going on. Will Venable already has a single, triple, HR, and stolen base in his 129th career game.
Of the years covered by box scores in the database, here are the 30 guys to have at least 1 SB, 1 3B, 1 HR in one of their first 129 career games.

Quite a short list, and while there are some regulars on there, hes not in bad company.

Venable wound up missing the cycle by a double. It remains true that no Padre has ever hit for the cycle.

It's interesting that Orta and Herzog are so close on the list considering how their paths crossed in 1985 World Series, with Herzog managing the Cardinals and Orta leading off the 9th inning of Game 6 (the Don Denkinger inning) with a single for the Royals (he only went 2-18 in the postseason in his career), setting the table for the comeback.
