In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr day, I suggest taking a moment to recollect one of the baseball figures who played a big role in laying the groundwork for some of Dr. King's accomplishments. Who am I talking about? #42, of course.

    And, as mentioned in the "Baseball history" section of the Moses Fleetwood Walker Wikipedia entry cited, lets also reflect on William Edward White and the fact that he had to pass himself off as caucasian to play...

    and don't forget Larry Doby, who (being "second" and being in Cleveland rather than New York) never seems to get his fair share of credit due.
