Posted by Sean Forman on September 6, 2007

The above table is not organized well....
    Sorry about any inconvenience.

  6. dustininminny Says:

I don't know about the sides of the plate question, but I'm pretty sure Tatis's HR were both grand slams.

  7. Johnny Twisto Says:

I remember Baerga doing that against the Yankees c. 1992-3. Too lazy to check though.

  8. Johnny Twisto Says:

Oh, duh, it's listed in the table above...1993

  9. vonhayes Says:

Von! Weren't one (or both?) of his grand slams, too?

He had some phenomenal single games over the years. Usually against my Mets.

  10. duckshirt Says:

Tom Clancy: I believe Mark Bellhorn was the one who did it from both sides of the plate.

  11. Andy Says:

Yeah Von Hayes led off the game with a homer, then hit a granny later in the first inning:

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI198506110.shtml

I remember that game well. From his splits, you can see that Hayes had 202 PA batting from the 1st position in the order but hit only 2 other HR in addition to those two above. And that leadoff homer above was his only leadoff homer (although it doesn't show up as a leadoff homer since it came in the bottom of the first.)

  12. cchien Says:

Some notes about the list I showed above:
    1. Bret Boone is the first one who hit two HRs in the first inning in AL, and Mike Cameron followed him to be the second one in the same inning. In addition, Mike Cameron hit 4 HRs in that game. Here is the gameday:

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA200205020.shtml

    2. However, Mike Cameron is not the first one who hit 4 HRs with 2 HRs in the same inning in major league history. The first one is Bobby Lowe in 1894-05-30.

    3. Nomar Garciaparra is the only one who hit 3 HRs in two consecutive innings in major league history. He hit 2 HRs in the third inning and 1 HR in the fourth inning in 2002-07-23.

    4. Mark Bellhorn is not the only one who hit 2 HRs from both sides of the plate in the same inning. Carlos Baerga did it first in 1993-04-08.

    5. Von Hayes is the first one who hit 2 HRs in the first inning in NL.
