One of the stats highlighted in today's Elias Says column is that Adam LaRoche turned in his 3rd career 4 extra-base hit game last night. While their post compares Laroche's accomplishment to recent players, it made me wonder how he ranks with all players since 1954. The answer - surprisingly well. Here are the players with the most career 4 extra-base hit games since 1954:

Huh, I woulda guessed it was more common.

So Mays and Horner are the only ones on the list above to have a 4 HR game (of the 8 that had a 4 HR game since 1954).

The Sporting News record book says Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio hold the all-time record with 5 games each with 4 extra-base hits, Gehrig in 1926, 1928, 1930, 1932, and 1934 (every two years!), DiMaggio in 1936, 1937, 1941, 1948, and 1950. Gehrig had a 4-homer game in 1932. Stargell holds the NL record.
