you've gotta feel bad for Texas in entry number 7. 15 innings, 4 hits, and they still manage to lose somehow.

  2. RadioFreePeru Says:

Overlooked in the righteous commentary on the sterling pitching performances in the Bosox-Yanks Augusut 7 game was a pair of ironman stints by catchers Jason Varitek (14+ innings caught) and Jorge Posada (14), neither of whom is a kid.

but thirteen all told, including two in 1967. The two beauties in 1967 also featured ironman jobs by the Yankees' Jake Gibbs in April (caught 18 innings, then singled stole second and scored the winning run in a Pepitone single and Bosox' Russ Gibson (caught all 18), as well as 38-year old Elston Howard (traded to Boston August 3), who caught the first game of the August 29th doubleheader (see Wikipedia for what a doubleheader is) and then came into the second game in the ninth inning, catching a total of 20+ innings for the day. 40,000 + attendance for the ninth-place CBS Yankees.
Con}incidences: Jim Lonberg ND in April game, won game 1 of the August doubleheader. Bob Tillman (purchased by Yankees from Boston on August 8) caught all 20 innings of game two for the Yankees. Game 2 was also Jim BallFour's only win on the year
