Since 1954, there have been 20 pitchers to shut out the Red Sox at Fenway Park where the start was among the first 35 games of the player's career:

Incidentally, 18 guys have done it at Yankee Stadium against the Yankees:

Thats 2 pitchers who have shut the Yankees out on the road in their debut. Since 1954 ten pitchers have thrown a road shutout in their first game. (15 have done it at home)

Billy Rohr is a terrific story. In that major league debut, he lost a no-hitter with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth (Elston Howard bloop single). A week later, in his second major league game, he beat the Yankees again 6-1, losing his shutout in the 8th (Elston Howard again). He would never win another major league start. He got knocked around in his next few games, and at the end of May, was called to military service. He pitched only one more game for Boston after his return in the Fall, but was sold to Cleveland at season's end. His major league career ended as an Indian in '68 at the age of 22.

Has any other rookie taken a nohitter into the 9th in his debut? Or come close?

How about the worst starts in a road debut?
