Most IP, no ER

We were talking about this the other day so I thought I'd share the full list. this is the most IP in a full season while allowing no earned runs (since 1901.)

So we've got 2 guys from 2009 on here. In all likelihood, they'll both disappear since they're both likely to give up an earned run at some point this season. But I have to admit that I'd never heard of #13 Mike Hinckley before. He went 14 games and 13.2 innings for the Nats last year and didn't give up any earned runs. This year, he's already given up 5 earned runs in just 9.2 innings.

Just missed Clay Zavada in 2009 as well at 10.1 IP so far. Although his inherited runners stat makes me run for the hills whenever he enters the game.

this list is extremely fun to look at. i don't recall or have forgotten that Fernando had such success in 1980. then his first start in 1981 was a shut out and his second start didn't give up a run until the 8th inning. so he started his career with 33.2 consecutive scoreless innings. that must be the record. or is it?

Short memory KingTurtle... Brad Ziegler started his career in 2008 with 38 scoreless

sorry, i'm still living in the 80s.

I posted a link about Ziegler but the spam filter caught it. Thanks Dre.
Kingturtle, if it's the early 80s, may I suggest buying Microsoft stock?

Karl Spooner! Two complete game shutouts, allowing only 7 hits while striking out 27! I had never heard of him, but had to read more. Sad...done at 24 with a sore arm.

Remove Mazzaro from the list. He got through 4 hitless innings tonight before giving up 3 runs in the fifth. Still, going 18 innings before giving up an earned run to begin your major league career isn't bad.

hoffman's about 15 years older than most of those guys.

Hoffman done... Zavada still alive at 11.1

Interesting list but you really need to exclude 2009 performances until the season is complete. There is nothing particularly noteworthy about a 11 IP streak with 0 ER that occurs during the course of a season.

I agree, which is why I addressed that issue right below the list in my post.
