Slow sluggers

We talk frequently about guys like Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonds, Andre Dawson, and even Steve Finley and Reggie Sanders, who hits lots of HR and also stole lots of bases. But who are the guys with the fewest SB with at least 300 HR?
Here you go:

Yup...those are some slow guys.

Now while it is hard for even the slowest chump to leg out a triple (I've had the pleasure and rarity of seeing David Ortiz leg out a triple that could have been an inside the park homer), i find it hard to call people slow who averaged almost 3 triples a year, such as Stargell (55), Ted Williams (71), Mize (83) and DiMaggio (131). The latter three played in a time frame where nobody was stealing bases at all.

But they also played in a time frame when there were a lot more triples. I think DiMaggio could run. Williams I'm pretty sure couldn't. Mize, not sure, but I doubt he was too fast either.

wow, i don't remember ever noticing that Joltin' Joe had only 30 lifetime steals. It wasn't because he was slow, of course. He was quick. But it may have been because he was fragile. Or maybe, although a worthy hook-slider, maybe he wasn't so swift with conventional stolen base slides.

With 11 home runs this year, Ortiz would jump into 4th place, assuming he doesn't manage 3 steals first (though I'd be ok with that kind of mobility from him).

You'll be adding Pat Burrell's name to that list soon. 251 homers and 5 steals.

Adrian Gonzalez easily has the most home runs without a stolen base.

You have to go all the way down to Chuck Essegian on that list to find the guy who has the most homers without a stolen base attempt.

Hey, at least Bone hit for the cycle.

The era factor is very interesting with steals. Obviously DiMaggio with 131 triples was capable of 300 steals if he played in an era conducive to stealing - then again there was too little benefit to be gained in risking injury to him. Johnny Mize and Ralph Kiner have surprisingly low CS totals.
