Biographical Information[edit]

Víctor Mendoza was a star amateur pitcher in Panama in the 1980s.

Mendoza was on the Panamanian national team in the 1982 Amateur World Series, 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games (Bronze Medal), 1983 Pan American Games and 1984 Amateur World Series. In the 1984 Amateur World Series, he was 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA, tied with Crispin Poveda and Orlando Cano for the team lead in wins and tied for 9th in the event.

In Panama's amateur league, he helped Herrera win five titles in the 1980s. In 1983, he had a league-leading 1.09 ERA. He allowed no runs in 31 innings in 1988 and won a MVP award. Overall, he was 44-18 with a 1.74 ERA in Panama. His best pitch was a sinker.
