Biographical Information[edit]

Toshimasa Konta played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Konta was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 6th round of the 2002 NPB draft, but he spent his first 6 seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 23 at-bats with the big club. He went 5-for-19 in 2006, and he played 94 games with a .246/.259/.316 batting line in 2007 as the main pinch-runner and outfield defensive replacement for the Fighters. Konta hit .236/.287/.300 with 14 steals in in 2008, and he had a .231/.271/.292 batting line in 2009.

The Fighters then traded him with Hideki Sunaga to the Yomiuri Giants for Wirfin Obispo after he hit .258/.324/.364 in 2010, and he recorded a .289/.325/.316 batting line in 21 games in 2011. Konta missed the entire 2012 season due to shoulder injury, and he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach for the Fighters from 2015 to 2016 and in 2022, and he coached their minor league team from 2013 to 2014 and from 2016 to 2021. He returned to their minor league as fielding coach in 2023.

Overall, Konta hit .249/.293/.323 with 97 hits and 2 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
