Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Tom Farmer was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 7th round of the 2001 amateur draft, out of the University of Miami. He was 15-2 in his senior season and played in the 2001 College World Series, being named one of two pitchers on the All-Tournament team, alongside Jeff Bruksch of Stanford University. Miami won the title that year, still the most recent one in school history. He was also a member of the 1999 championship team.

He pitched for three different teams in his first pro season, 2001: the Oneonta Tigers of the New York-Penn League, the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League, and the Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League. Altogether, he 4-3, 2.55 in 12 starts. In 2002, he started the year at Erie, where he was 6-8, 5.33 in 18 starts, made1 start for the Toledo Mud Hens of the International League in which e gave up 4 runs in 6 innings, then on July 25th was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with a player to be named later (Jason Frasor) in return for Hiram Bocachica. He finished the year back in AA with the Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League, where he was 3-1, 3.19 in 6 starts.

The 2003 season was probably his best one, as he pitched in AA with Jacksonville and AAA with the Las Vegas 51s and combined to go 7-10, 3.27 in 25 games (24 starts), logging 145 2/3 innings. His ERA in Las Vegas, normally a strong hitters' park, was an excellent 2.54. He returned to las Vegas in both 2004 and 2005, but never made the last step to the big leagues. In 2004, he was 7-7, 4.59, now as a swingman, as he made 7 starts in 47 appearances, with 3 saves. In 2005, in 20 outings as a reliever, he gave up 41 runs on 45 hits in just 21 1/3 innings for an ERA of 15.19 that brought his career to an end. Even when he was successful, his strikeout rates were low, with 296 over 465 2/3 innings, which may explain why he never was given a look in the majors.

After baseball, he put his business administration degree from Miami to good use by becoming a successful real estate broker in south Florida, based out of Miami, FL.
