Biographical Information

Leslie Aulds, also known as Tex Aulds, played three games in the majors for the Boston Red Sox in 1947, relieving regular catcher Birdie Tebbetts late each game. He also dabbled in football, playing in the 1944 Cotton Bowl - not for a college, but for Randolph Field (now Randolph Air Force Base). He caught a pass and scored the only touchdown for Randolph in a 7-7 tie against the University of Texas.

Aulds spent four years (1942-1945) in the United States Air Force during World War II. He played for the 1946 Scranton Red Sox, a Sox farm team which went 90-43. Among others, he caught Mel Parnell, who led the league in ERA, and Tommy Fine, who went 23-3. He died of a fatal heart attack at his home in Hondo, TX while watching the Red Sox play the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the 1999 ALCS.
