- 1926 - Browns coach Jimmy Austin gets into a game and steals home. At age 46, he is the oldest player to do so in a major league game. Fred Merkle also plays his final game today.
- 1961 - With just 8,000 fans on hand, Roger Maris homers off of Jack Fisher to tie Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs.
- 1971 - Jim Palmer (pictured) wins his 20th game, giving the 1971 Orioles four 20-game winners. They are just the second major league team to do so.
- 1972 - Yutaka Fukumoto steals his 105th base of the season, breaking Maury Wills' modern world record.
- 1981 - Nolan Ryan throws his fifth career no-hitter, breaking a tie with Sandy Koufax for the most in a major league career.
- 1998 - Dennis Eckersley appears in his 1,071st major league game, breaking Hoyt Wilhelm's record for pitchers.
