April 24: Today's featured birthday is that of Herman Segelke, who turns 66.
- 1902 - John McGraw arranges his release from the Orioles to manage the New York Giants. He states that he will not tamper with any of the Baltimore players yet will lure stars such as Joe McGinnity and Roger Bresnahan to New York.
- 1912 - Rube Marquard's winning streak ends at 19 with a 7-2 loss to the Cubs.
- 1941 - Ted Williams (pictured) hits one of the most famous home runs in All-Star Game history. With the American League down 5-4, two on and two out in the bottom of the 9th, Williams goes deep against Claude Passeau to win the 1941 All-Star Game.
- 1962 - Stan Musial hits three home runs; at age 41, he becomes the oldest player to have done so in a game. It extends his home run streak to four in four at-bats, tying the major league record.
- 1970 - Jim Ray Hart ties the 20th Century MLB record with six RBI in an inning, on a three-run homer and a three-run triple. He hits for the cycle as the Giants top the Braves, 13-0.
