- 1895 - Babe Ruth is born in Baltimore, MD; he will become the most famous player in baseball history.
- 1976 - The American League grants an expansion team to Seattle, WA. The Seattle Mariners (original logo pictured) will start play in 1977.
- 2001 - Miguel Batista wins the finale in the 2001 Caribbean Series as the Águilas Cibaeñas top the Naranjeros de Hermosillo; Elmer Dessens struggles in the loss.
- 2005 - Francisco Campos throws a gem to beat the favored Águilas Cibaeñas and give the Venados de Mazatlán the 2005 Caribbean Series title; it is only the fifth Caribbean Series won by a Mexican Pacific League team.
- 2009 - The Tigres de Aragua win the 2009 Caribbean Series while closer Francisco Butto sets a new Caribbean Series record with his fourth save of the tourney.
