Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Steve Ayers was selected by the Montreal Expos in the ninth round of 1971 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer. He was 1-3 with a 5.49 ERA and 36 walks in 41 innings for the Watertown Expos and allowed 7 runs and 12 walks in 10 innings for the Jamestown Falcons. The following year, while playing for the Jamestown Falcons of the New York-Penn League, he threw a no-hitter against Batavia. He was 3-1 with a 5.14 ERA and improved his control (28 BB in 56 IP). He remained in the Expos organization through 1973, going 2-0 with a 8.25 ERA and 14 walks in 12 innings for the Jamestown Expos. In 1974, he signed with the Atlanta Braves system but was released due to injury.
