Biographical Information

The father of Ross Grimsley, Ross Grimsley pitched 7 games in the majors and had a long minor league career.

In the majors, his ERA was 3.86 in 14 innings. All of his appearances were with the Chicago White Sox in September of 1951, after spending the season in the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league system. He was 29 at the time, six years older than teammate Nellie Fox.

In the minors, Ross pitched from 1946 to 1961, getting over 125 victories although much of the time he pitched in relief. He was a teammate of Tom Lasorda with the Montreal Royals in 1951. He first pitched for some independent teams before being signed by the St. Louis Cardinals before the 1948 season. After the 1950 season, the Dodgers selected him in the minor league draft, and he spent only one season with them before the White Sox purchased his contract on August 30th. He then spent three seasons in the White Sox organization, never making it back to the big leagues, then moved around a lot in his last seasons in the minors, pitching for four other organizations.
