Reading Coal Heavers

From BR Bullpen

The Reading Coal Heavers began play in the Atlantic League in 1897 and struggled in their first year, going 40-100 and finishing in eighth place. The next year the team improved to a 72-56 record and a third place finish and made history on July 5, when a female pitcher for the Coal Heavers became the first woman to play pro baseball. Lizzie Arlington pitched the final inning of that game and allowed two hits and a walk but no runs. In 1899, the club finished in fourth place with a 46-40 mark. The Coal Heavers had a 16-16 record in mid-June 1900 when the Atlantic League folded.
