Biographical Information[edit]
Ralph Shafer was born in Cincinnati, OH and was at the University of Cincinnati in 1913-14. On July 25, 1914, manager Fred Clarke of the 1915 Pirates let him into one game, although Ralph had no plate appearances or appearances in the field. At age 20, Shafer was exactly half the age of 40-year-old Honus Wagner, the team's veteran shortstop.
As of 2006, Shafer is the most recent of three major league players to bear the last name Shafer.
