Biographical Information

Quintin de Cuba has played in the minor leagues and the Netherlands.

De Cuba hit .124/.255/.180 for the 2007 DSL Mets and had six passed balls and three errors in ten games behind the plate. Demoted to the VSL Mets in 2008, he improved to .263/.329/.467 with 25 RBI and 7 homers in 42 games while moving primarily to first base. He tied Avisail Garcia, Luis Alvarez and Rogelio Noris for fourth in the Venezuelan Summer League in circuit clouts. Back with the DSL Mets in 2009, Quintin had a batting line of .218/.358/.423 in reduced action at first.

De Cuba played for the Netherlands Antilles in the 2010 South American Games. For 2011, he signed with Sparta/Feyenoord in the Hoofdklasse. He debuted as an Opening Day 9th-inning pinch-hitter for Ardley Jansen. Facing Arshwin Asjes, he flew out to Shaldimar Daantji. He hit .233/.357/.379 for the 2011 Hoofdklasse season, leading his light-hitting club in slugging (he did not make the league's top 10). In 2012, he moved to Kinheim and did better, producing at a .313/.446/.478 clip with 26 runs in 41 games and stealing 12 bases in 14 tries. He was 10th in the league in slugging (between Rudy van Heydoorn and Phil Ortez), 7th in OBP (between Danny Rombley and Rafaël Jozefa), tied for 7th in doubles (11, even with Bas de Jong), tied for 9th in home runs (3), tied for fourth in walks (29, tied with Gyenuar Lopez and Rafaël Jozefa), tied for 5th in steals (with Björn Hato and Jozefa) and tied for 8th in strikeouts (29). He was 2 for 11 with four walks and four runs in the 2012 Holland Series, to help Kinheim win it all.

In the 2012 Haarlem Baseball Week, he was 1 for 7 with a double, run and two RBI. He was superb as a RF-C for the Netherlands in the 2012 European Championship, going 9 for 19 with a double, homer, 3 steals, 8 runs, 6 RBI and five walks. He led Pool C with a .633 OBP and tied Lukas Jahn for the most walks in the pool. He made a crucial error in the Netherlands' stunning 3-2 loss to the Czech Republic national team. In the Gold Medal game, he doubled, homered off John Mariotti and drove in two but the Netherlands fell, 8-3, to Italy.

De Cuba was one of two backup catchers for the Netherlands in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, behind Dashenko Ricardo, as the Orange made it to the final four. He played one game, replacing Ricardo during a 10-6 loss to Japan. He struck out against Masahiko Morifuku during a two-run rally in the 7th, then singled off Hideaki Wakui to score Kalian Sams to close it to 8-6. He made a passed ball during a Japan two-run rally in the bottom of the inning.

He hit .250/.471/.250 in the 2013 European Cup, finishing 5th in OBP and tying Mervin Gario for first in times plunked (2). He was 0 for 3 for the Netherlands in the 2013 World Port Tournament. In the 2013 Hoofdklasse, he batted .282/.411/.500 for Kinheim. He tied Bryan Engelhardt for 10th in the league in RBI (29) and was third with four homers (behind Engelhardt and Gianison Boekhoudt). He remained productive in the 2014 Hoofdklasse - .309/.414/.432. He tied for 8th in the league with 9 doubles.

In the 2015 World Port Tournament, he hit .389/.455/.556 with 5 RBI in 7 games. He was 8th in average, 9th in slugging (between Daantji and Lourdes Gurriel), tied Boekhoudt for 10th in OBP, tied Dwayne Kemp and Yordanis Samón for 10th in RBI and was second in total chances without an error (35, trailing Dudley Leonora). His 9th-inning sacrifice fly off Japan's Ryusa Sakamoto scored Kemp with the winner. He played for the Vaessen Pioniers in 2015 and posted a .301/.350/.434 batting line with 26 RBI in 40 games. He tied Ricardo for 4th in the league with four dingers.

De Cuba hit .319/.445/.442 with 36 runs in 42 games for the Pioniers in the 2016 Hoofdklasse. He was 5th in OBP (between Daniel Fernandes and Jeffrey Arends), tied Zerzinho Croes and Kemp for the run lead, tied for 3rd in doubles (11), tied for 4th with 31 walks (even with Arends and Vince Rooi) and was second with 12 passed balls (two behind Ruben Prins). He slumped to .250/.363/.338 in 2017.

He moved to Dutch powerhouse Neptunus the next season. In the 2018 European Champions Cup, he put on a strong show. His two-run single off Justin Cicatello in the 7th put Neptunus ahead, 5-4, to beat Unipol Bologna. In the semifinals, he hit a two-run homer off the Rouen Huskies' Esteban Prioul. He hit .357/.526/.786 with two homers and five RBI in five games in the preliminary round. He was 4th in slugging (between former major leaguer Alex Romero and Martin Červinka), 7th in OBP, tied for 4th in RBI, tied for first in homers (with Dondrei Hubbard, Thomas De Wolf and Gary Owens), tied Kemp for 6th in total bases (11) and tied for 4th in walks (4). In the finale, he went 2 for 3 with a hit-by-pitch, homer (off Kevin Kellij) and two runs in a 5-0 win over ASD Rimini to give Neptunus the title. He was named the MVP of the Cup.
