Promotion clause
A promotion clause in a contract means that a player must be called up to the major league roster by a certain date or be made available in a deal to a team that would give him that opportunity. This type of clause is usually found in the contract of a major league veteran who agrees to be sent to the minor leagues to demonstrate that he is still an effective player, but who does not want to stay in the bushes for a prolonged period.
