Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Stocco played three seasons in the minor leagues.

Stocco hit .252/.315/.355 in 2004 for Elon University, then batted .306/.350/.481 for them in 2005. He signed with the Winnipeg Goldeyes out of college, going 1 for 21. The San Diego Padres signed him as an undrafted free agent on the scouting of Mal Fichman. In 2006, he played for the Eugene Emeralds (.200/.250/.387 in 22 games) and Lake Elsinore Storm (4 for 19, 2 2B). In 2007, Matt hit .192/.246/.263 in 79 games for the Fort Wayne Wizards as the primary catcher.

Stocco split 2008 between Lake Elsinore (1 for 4, 2B) and the San Antonio Missions (.212/.297/.333 in 10 games). He signed with Bologna in Italy for 2009. In the 2009 European Cup Matino phase, he was 3 for 10 with two walks, a double, 2 runs and a RBI. On Opening Day, he was the DH and hit 5th behind Claudio Liverziani and Eddy Garabito; Matt went 0 for 4 with two K's. Juan Pablo Angrisano started at catcher. In the final phase of the 2009 European Cup, Stocco doubled twice and walked twice in 7 at-bats but made a crucial throwing error in the finale on a pickoff attempt off Giuseppe Mazzanti that cost Bologna the game.
