Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Kinzer pitched 9 games in the major leagues, 8 with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1989 and 1 for the Detroit Tigers in 1990. In the minor leagues from 1984 to 1988, he had a record of 34-25.

He was a punter for the Detroit Lions during the 1987 NFL player's strike. He made 7 punts for a 34.0 avg. He is the only player ever to have played for both the Tigers and the Lions.

After his major league days, he served as a scout for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and has been an agent and as well as director for Kinzer Camps.

He was on the Purdue University team at the same time as Rico Rossy.

In 2010 he became an assistant coach at Taylor University. His son, Taylor Kinzer, was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim out of Taylor University in the 24th round of the 2009 amateur draft.
