Biographical Information[edit]

Marcus McBeth was originally drafted by the Oakland A's in the 4th round of the 2001 amateur draft as an outfielder. His powerful throwing arm eventually landed him a major league pitching role.

McBeth spent his first three seasons in the minors as an outfielder, hitting around .230 each year. He then converted to a pitcher in 2005 and surprised onlookers by his quick ability to learn the job. He appeared in 23 games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007, and he was called up to the majors by the Boston Red Sox in 2009 as well, but didn't make an appearance during his time on the active roster.

With the Reds in 2007, he was eleven years younger than teammate Ken Griffey, Jr..
