Louisville Eclipse

From BR Bullpen

The Louisville Eclipse is the name usually given to the team representing Louisville, KY in the American Association from 1882 to 1884, after which it became known as the Louisville Colonels. Team names were unofficial at the time, and the Eclipse and the Colonels were in fact the same team.

The name Eclipse comes from Eclipse Park, which was the home of the original semi-pro team which was put together after the Louisville Grays were expelled from the National League due to a gambling scandal during the 1877 season. That team joined the American Association in 1882.
