Biographical Information[edit]
Laz Diaz came to the major leagues in the American League in 1995, filling in for regular umpires who were taking some time off. In 1999, he was taken on as a full-time umpire after the mass resignation of major league umpires in a failed negotiating strategy. He has since worked the 2000 All-Star Game, 2007 World Series, 2009 World Baseball Classic and 2010 All-Star Game.
He was promoted to crew chief before the 2022 season.
