Larry Bachiu

Infielder Larry Bachiu was a star for the Regina Red Sox. He hit .301 in 1959, .361 in 1960 and .218 in 1961. In 1963, his .333 average tied for 5th and he led the Southern League (Saskatchewan) with 47 runs. He had perhaps a career season in 1964 - his .385 average was second by .004, he led with 5 triples and 29 runs and he tied for first with 37 hits. In 1965, he fell to .190 but rebounded to .343 in 1966 then won the batting title at .466 in 1967. That season, he made the first Team Canada ever assembled, for the 1967 Pan American Games.
